Blah.

It's been weeks since I posted, but I have a good excuse. It's a combination of too busy and too confused.

Too busy wrapping up the school year, reviewing a semester's worth of material is quite exhausting! Preparing the final exam and getting everything graded, and packing up the classroom for the summer... I am so tired when I get home! Next week I wil finally be free Nd clear, and with 3 more weddings to attend this summer, I have good reason to get busy in the sewing room!

Now for the confused part... I suspect that my prom dress client may not have been as thrilled with the dress as I hoped. I have requested pictures 3 times, but haven't gotten anything. All I have are the pictures that I found on Facebook, which were posted by her friends.

The front gathers don't look quite right, but they looked perfect to me when I delivered the dress. My gut says something is wrong, which bothers me, as I really want the girls to love their dresses and be excited to share pictures. This negative vibe has left me feeling bummed out and... confused. Meanwhile, I have 2 girls that have already secured my services for Prom next year!

Hopefully I am wrong. If I do receive the pictures, I will share them with you right away. See you next week!

I can understand your feelings of confusion, but maybe the girl has just been busy with end of school year stuff as well. Or maybe she's not happy with how she looks in the pictures, separate from the dress. Maybe it was a bad date?! Don't bum out too much!

Ouch! I can empathise with how you feel. I hope she did like the dress and just doesn't like the way her face looks in the pictures or something like that!

Been there. I've realized that it's just not that important to people to send back pictures to the person who made their outfit. Most important is whether you were happy with the results you produced. Don't fret.

Oh no! I saw the FB pics and I thought it looked great! If you already have 2 commissions for next year, someone must have liked it.
I feel your frustration though. Last Christmas I gifted a ton of things and only got one picture. It makes me not want to sew for anyone else.

I know people who just don't like their pictures taken. Maybe in a group at the prom where she has to be a part of it all she concedes, but maybe the one with her date or alone she just is not comfortable with.

As far as the workmanship, I guarantee you, you are noticing things she never did. I am just sure of it. We are all so so critical of our own work. Take those two commissions for next year to the bank. You did great on this one.

I figured things must be hectic with the end of the year for you and that was why you weren't blogging. I sure wish I had 3 weddings to attend this summer. Alas, I have none so no fancy clothes this season. Enjoy your sewing.

I'm sure the actual dress is better than the pictures! I have had the same thing happen to me. Remember she is a teenager!

Well your project pics look good, and I'm sure you did a great job! I agree that the teenager might be too busy with summer fun and may have just forgotten. In the meantime, be careful of "the story you tell yourself" in the absence of information--it usually does more damage than the actual facts of the situation. I look forward to seeing the pics if you get them. Your sewing is an inspiration to many, so stay focused and have fun!!

Ring her mother and ask for a photo. She's bound to have taken a shot before she left the house. If there was a problem with the dress, you could make her a blouse or simple shift dress as a token.

I do not enjoy sewing for my daughter much of the time. I will finish something for her and then she'll never wear it. "I didn't like the way it poufed on me," she'll say. And I'll be all "But you never said anything when I fitted it on you a gazillion times!" And so on.

I don't know this girl you write of, but maybe she's like my Annie? Not the best communicator? At any rate, I feel your pain. I'm sure the dress was lovely. Can you post the FB photos?

No worries :) I sew for a 'living' :) My clients are THRILLED with me :) I always 'ask' for a quick pic, via e-mail or whatever. 95% of the time, I receive NONE :) Everyone is BUSY :) Please don't accept that as a reflection upon the quality of your work. You do MARVELOUS work :) JUST KEEP SEWING :) Enjoy your Summer :) Cheryl :)

Just landed on your blog, but had to put in my two cents worth. I would have loved to have someone like you make my dress for prom. And even if it did not turn out "exactly perfect or a little different" I would still have been eternally grateful that someone attempted to make something for me and that they actually cared how I felt about it.
Just a little walk down memory lane- My best friend's mother at the time had me buy all the material and accessories and she was going to make my dress and her daughter's as well. There were months available before the prom in which she could have completed the task. My "friend" went to the prom with her new dress and I had to find something from my closet I had previously worn which wasn't special because her mother told me the "evening" before prom she could not finish my dress. Let's just say I had no time to "get" a dress and she knew that. 'Nuff said.
I know I am going very long, but take it from someone who has been there, if I had someone like you back then I would have been very lucky. And so are these girls, because you actually "care" about how they feel about the dress and you pour all your hard work and expertise into it. They are very, very lucky to have you.
